Updates

October 31st, 2008 by Lodoc

Football is on for Sunday if you are coming by. Missed the last couple weekends so it will be fun to get together again. Be sure to bring some snacks or whatever. I only maintain dite rite, coke zero, ice tea, water and beer. So if you want something else bring it!

Going to work on the remodel all day saturday. 90% of the electrical is done, just have to pull the 3 circuits down from the garage panel and then drop in all the low voltage stuff. That includes CAT6 wiring to the patch bays as well as HDMI from the rack to where the LCD TV will be, as well as audio lines from the rack and the TV location over to where my MACKIE mixer sits which handles audio for the room.

Once LV and AC is done it’ll be drywall time…

Halloween tonight and then more remodeling .

The Hunt

October 27th, 2008 by Lodoc

Well this weekends hunting trip was, as usual, a total blast. Saw lots of deer sign and track but didn’t run into any. An amazing amount of Bear sign everywhere as well as Elk. We saw a HUGE herd of Elk up on one of the BLM cuts. I lost count at 20+. The were on the backside of our property so hopefully by Elk season they will wonder over the top of the hill.

Did manage to shoot at one coyote and actually hit the second one. Also pulled a nice Tom Turkey out, so I’ll be cooking him up this weekend…mmmmmm

coyoteCoyotes are total pests, up in the area we hunt they kill the Fawn deer as well as the local farm sheep, so nobody cries in their beer to a dead coyote. We usually shoot them when we see them to keep them from killing off the deer Fawn which impacts the population. I hit this guy from over 200 yards in the late morning. The previous one I had shot at the day before was actually closer to me, not sure how I missed him but I hit the tree behind him which exploded and he ran like a commie out of hell.

Was lucky enough to be able to shoot a turkey off of my wife’s Aunt and Uncles place. They have a ton of turkeythese wild turkeys running around. In the past we’ve hunted them off local farms or BLM but they are real difficult to get to beacuse they see you coming from 10 miles away. Susan and Randy toss corn out in the mornings into the field so the turkeys tend to collect around their 50+ acres…perfect. They were kind enough to let me come in and hunt one off their fields. Was nice to be able to pick out a good sized Tom. Should cook up nice this weekend!

More pictures of the weekend can be found in the gallery. So feel free to poke through there.

Remodeling continues this week and weekend, as well as we are on for Football this coming Sunday. We missed the last two since I was out. So feel free to come for some HD football and if your lucky some Wild Turkey, the non-alcoholic kind that other stuff is poison!

Remodel Update MK II

October 22nd, 2008 by Lodoc

Remodel is going well, actually moved faster so far then I ever thought I would. I used this last weekend really well and got a lot done.

Framing work is mostly done, the big safe is now walled into its new home, just waiting for drywall work.

The computer cabinet is framed into the north wall and the sides/top/bottom are all installed. The killer fan panels i ordered for it arrived in the mail, so i need to get those installed so I can then work on insulating and sound proofing it.

I also got the steel door installed and framed into the retaining wall. Decided to do myself and it was much easier then i thought. I was just a bit nervous cutting into a major second floor retaining wall, but a contractor I know re-assured me I could easily do it myself rather then pay someone…he was right. Door has a digital combination deadbolt lock on it which is extra cool.

I need someone to cut me some steel pieces i can shim into the door frame so the dead bolt drops through more steel, probably have to do that before drywalling.

Tonight I was able to hammer out a bunch of the electrical work. All the outlets in the room for UPS power are wired back to the computer cabinet where 1 of the 2 UPS is, and all the outlets on non-ups commercial power are wired to where they will terminate to the circuit i’m pulling in. Still have to wire all the lighting and switches in the room. Then lastly pull the 3 new circuits into the room from the panel.

The relay rack gear showed up, but was missing a few parts so I called monoprice and they were all over it, parts in the mail. That’ll let me get that installed into the computer cabinet.

Also have to pull all the network and A/V lines. I’m also wiring HDMI and component video runs as well as audio from the computer cabinet (where the HD DVR and BR player will be) back to where my new 36″ LCD HD Panel will be wall mounted above my desk and my Mackie mixer which terminates all the audio sources in my office….bitchin camaro.

Most of that is not a lot of hours of work, then I can actually get the drywall in and done (PITA). Post that it will be insulation work, texture and paint and then the part i’m not looking so forward to (mostly because I’ve never done it) is the new drop ceiling installation…meh.

I am however twice as far along as I expected to be. I’m going to lose this upcoming weekend however since its hunting weekend, so I’ll be out in the woods for a few days. Hopefully the weekend after I can really hammer it. I do get some done during the weeknights but not that much.

I have a crap load of pictures, i just haven’t had time to upload them. I should do that as i go along, it would be easier for all of us. LOL

Anyway, just a quick update since I’ve been asked by several people how the remodel was going. I’m very happy thus far with my progress.

Election Fail.
