Knowing … how bad it is
March 29th, 2009 by Lodoc
Went and saw the movie Knowing last night. Wow, what a real crappy piece of film making that was. I’ve always liked Nick Cage but unless he’s in a certain role, or maybe under direction of really talented directors I’ve never found him to play very believable characters. He’s great in somethings like Leaving Las Vegas and a few other films. But I like him and I’ll usually go see movies he’s in. So I figured apart from that this movie has some potential to at least be enjoyable to watch, and I certainly wasn’t expecting great things.
If you can get past the horrendous acting of everyone in the film, get around the terrible screenplay adaption and the bad dialogue (one thing that ruins a movie faster than anything else for me is bad dialogue) all you are left with is a feeble attempt to put some sort of explanation around how maybe the bible comes from and/or god is really a bunch of aliens that continual save the human race just prior to some global disaster. WTF? I wonder if Steven Spielberg was involved.
I usually am pretty easy on movies and give them a lot of leeway (with the exception of poorly written dialogue) and this movie is probably the worst thing I’ve seen in a decade. I can’t believe critics actually say this is going to be Nick Cage’s “comeback”. I was even more disappointed when I saw that this movie was directed by Alex Proyas who directed I, Robot and Dark City. After this he should be banned from film making.
So do yourself a favor and save yourself the cash and go see Monsters Vs. Aliens. This movie at least is fun, will make you laugh and at a minimum you won’t leave saying “What the hell did I just spend my money on”.
After a pretty hellacious week at work due to some layoffs and a few other crappy moments it was nice to just hang out with the family this weekend and see some movies and mess around. Even in the rain. Although this week I did get to hang out with Tarus Balog of OpenNMS while he was out doing some demo’s of their new release hoping that we can get New Edge upgraded to the latest platform. So it was fun hanging out with Tarus if nothing else!
Other than that its been pretty slow lately, busy with some side business that are doing well but not raking in the big dollars yet. Michelle and I need to get away soon, hoping some place tropical. We are eyeballing Fiji at the moment, i think it will really depend on what airfare ends up being.
